Creating Polls
You can create polls in two ways: manually configure every option, or let AI Assist generate one from a simple description.
Choosing a Poll Format
Start by selecting the type of poll that fits your lesson. Each format is designed for different classroom moments:
Collect open responses
Common Settings
All poll types share some common options:
Set a countdown (10 seconds to 1 hour) to automatically close voting.
For voting formats, limit how many votes each student can cast (1-10).
After creating your poll, you'll see a preview before it goes live. You can always edit it later from the share page.
AI Assist
BetaDon't want to configure everything manually? Just describe what you want in plain English and AI Assist will create the poll for you.
Tell us what you want to ask and we'll set it up for you.

Poll Types
Hyvemind offers 5 different poll formats, each designed for specific use cases. Scroll down to learn about each one in detail.
Open Ended
Open Ended polls let participants share their thoughts in their own words. Great for gathering ideas, feedback, or qualitative responses.
When to Use
- •End-of-class reflection
- •Collecting student questions
- •Brainstorming sessions
- •Icebreaker warmups
Special Option
Enable Allow multiple responses if you want students to submit more than one answer. This is useful for collecting multiple ideas from each student.
Multiple Choice
Multiple Choice polls present predefined options for students to choose from. Each student picks one answer, and you see the results in real time.
When to Use
- •Quick comprehension checks
- •Knowledge checks and quizzes
- •Gauging class opinions
- •Voting on class decisions
Visualization Options
Choose how results are displayed. Each style works best for different scenarios:
Voting
Voting polls let students distribute multiple votes across different entries. This is ideal when you want to gauge relative preferences rather than single choices.
When to Use
- •Prioritizing project topics
- •Classroom debates
- •Choosing class activities
- •Book or topic selection
Votes Per Student
You can set how many votes each student gets (default is 1). Students can distribute their votes however they like—all on one entry or spread across several.
Team Innovators
An AI-powered solution for sustainable farming
Students can remove votes before submitting if they change their mind. Once they click “Submit,” their votes are locked in.
Music Playlist
Music Playlist polls let students share Spotify or YouTube links. Perfect for collaborative class playlists or creative projects.
Supported Platforms
- •Spotify tracks, albums, and playlists
- •YouTube videos
Optional Upvoting
Enable upvotes to let students vote on their favorite submissions. You control when voting starts—after all songs are submitted.
Supports Spotify tracks, albums, playlists, and YouTube videos.
Hackathon
Hackathon polls are designed for voting on projects or teams. Each entry can include a description and links to demos and GitHub repos.
Team Information
For each team, you can add:
- •Team name: Required
- •Description: Brief project summary
- •Demo URL: Link to live demo
- •GitHub URL: Link to source code
After voting ends, teams are automatically ranked by vote count. The winner gets a gold badge!
